couple of days ago Xbox360Fanboy ran a story about Rock Band being released in the UK and Europe. Its coming out in the UK on the 23rd of May. Strangely, that is only for the Xbox 360 version, the other consoles will be delayed until later in the Summer. Heres some of the details:
The UK version of Rock Band will include all 58 tracks found in the North American release, as well as feature nine new tracks spanning German, French and UK hits.
The game will be sold separately from an Instrument Edition, which is only includes the drum set, guitar and microphone peripherals, priced at GBP 129.99 (EUR 169). When factoring in the price of the software the package will cost gamers roughly $360 US. Additionally, UK gamers will have the option of purchasing wireless guitars separately for GBP 59.99 (EUR 79.99), while the standard drum kit will go for GBP 69.99 (EUR 89.99). (source:
But did you notice that price tag? Thats right, the full package (instrumental and the game itself) will put you back around £180 (thats about $360). To me that seems very much overpriced, especially when you consider that you can buy the game in the US for around $150 (source: Amazon.com) which converts to around £80-85.
We all know that Rock Band is something that has not been done before, but £180? You can get a Wii for that, or a second hand Xbox 360. Its a lot of money to pay for a game. Harmonix’s Rob Kay has spokeon to Eurogamer to defend the price of the game, blaming VAT and distribution costs. You can check the story out right here.
No matter what is to blame for the high costs, I won’t be buying the game at that price. I could get four or five retail games for that price. Seems a lot of people feel the same way about the situation. Are you willing to pay £180 for the game, especially when you can pick up Guitar Hero 3 for around £60-70 (source: Play.com).
When it comes down to it £180 is just too expensive. I was looking forward to the game and I was quite happy to pay £100-120 for it (considering the price in the US that would still be expensive) but £180 is far too high. I know I won’t be picking up the game for this price but how about you? Still planning on buying the game you UK and European Gamers? Let us know.
